AI and Robotics Eligibility

Eligibility differs according to the degree, institution and admission authority.

Undergraduate eligibility

A typical B.E. or B.Tech applicant may need to:

  • Pass Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board.
  • Study Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
  • Study Chemistry or another subject accepted under the current rules.
  • Obtain the prescribed aggregate and subject-wise marks.
  • Appear for the accepted entrance examination.
  • Meet the rank or cutoff.
  • Complete counselling and document verification.
  • Satisfy category, domicile or nationality requirements where applicable.

Physics and Mathematics are the standard preparation for most undergraduate engineering admissions, commonly accompanied by Chemistry or another subject permitted under the applicable rules. The accepted combination and minimum marks are institution-specific and must be checked in the current admission prospectus.

Why Mathematics matters

AI and Robotics uses Mathematics in:

  • Linear algebra
  • Calculus
  • Probability
  • Statistics
  • Optimisation
  • Coordinate transformations
  • Robot kinematics
  • Dynamics
  • Control systems
  • Machine learning
  • Computer vision

Students should be comfortable with logical and mathematical problem-solving.

Why Physics matters

Physics supports:

  • Forces and motion
  • Energy
  • Electricity
  • Magnetism
  • Sensors
  • Actuators
  • Mechanical systems
  • Robot dynamics
  • Control

Eligibility for B.Sc programmes

A B.Sc in AI, Robotics or a related field may use a different eligibility process from B.Tech. Some programmes require Mathematics or Computer Science at Class 12, while others accept a broader Science background.

A B.Sc should not be presented as identical to a B.Tech. The curriculum, engineering depth and professional pathways can differ.

Diploma eligibility

A diploma may begin after Class 10 or Class 12, depending on the institution. Applicants should verify:

  • Required qualification
  • Minimum marks
  • Duration
  • Recognition
  • Laboratory facilities
  • Lateral-entry provisions

Lateral-entry eligibility

Eligible diploma holders may enter a later year of an undergraduate engineering programme where lateral entry is permitted.

Requirements may include:

  • Diploma in an accepted branch
  • Minimum marks
  • Entrance examination
  • Seat availability
  • Institutional approval
  • Bridge courses

Postgraduate eligibility

M.E. or M.Tech applicants generally need:

  • A recognised bachelor’s degree.
  • A discipline accepted by the institution.
  • Prescribed marks or CGPA.
  • A valid GATE or other entrance score where required.
  • Performance in a written test or interview.
  • Completion of all bachelor’s requirements.

Potentially accepted disciplines can include:

  • Computer Science Engineering
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Robotics Engineering
  • Mechatronics Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Instrumentation Engineering
  • Automation Engineering
  • Information Technology

Eligibility varies according to whether the postgraduate programme focuses on software, control, electronics or mechanical robotics.

Integrated-course eligibility

Integrated programmes may begin after Class 12 and commonly take approximately five years. The award may combine undergraduate and postgraduate study, but exit options, degree nomenclature, curriculum and current availability differ. Applicants should confirm every programme-specific detail in the latest official university notice.

Doctoral eligibility

A PhD applicant generally requires:

  • A relevant master’s degree or another accepted qualification
  • Prescribed marks or CGPA
  • Entrance examination
  • Interview
  • Research proposal
  • Suitable supervisor
  • Departmental approval

Possible research areas include:

  • Robot learning
  • Autonomous navigation
  • Computer vision
  • Manipulation
  • Human–robot interaction
  • Swarm robotics
  • Medical robotics
  • Control systems
  • Soft robotics
  • Reinforcement learning
  • Multi-agent systems

Certificate-course eligibility

Certificates may be available in AI, ROS, computer vision, industrial robotics, embedded systems and related skills. Entry requirements vary.

A certificate can strengthen a student’s portfolio but does not replace a complete degree where an engineering qualification is required.

Documents commonly required

  • Class 10 certificate
  • Class 12 marksheet and certificate
  • Entrance-examination scorecard
  • Entrance-examination admit card
  • Transfer certificate
  • Migration certificate
  • Category certificate, if applicable
  • Domicile certificate, if applicable
  • Identity proof
  • Passport-sized photographs
  • Counselling allotment letter
  • Bachelor’s transcripts for PG admission
  • Degree or provisional certificate
  • GATE scorecard where required
