Use the official syllabus as the master checklist
JEE Main Paper 1 tests Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry largely at Classes 11 and 12 level. The official NTA syllabus—not a coaching handout—should be the final authority for included units. Print or copy it into a tracker and mark each unit as not started, learning, practising, revising or test-ready.
Mathematics
The syllabus spans sets and functions, complex numbers, quadratic equations, matrices and determinants, permutations and combinations, binomial theorem, sequences and series, limits, continuity and differentiability, integral calculus, differential equations, coordinate geometry, three-dimensional geometry, vectors, statistics and probability, and trigonometry.
Mathematics rewards depth and speed. For every unit, learn standard results, solve representative problems without notes, then practise mixed questions so that the chapter is not recognised only when labelled.
Physics
Major areas include units and measurements, kinematics, laws of motion, work-energy-power, rotational motion, gravitation, properties of solids and liquids, thermodynamics, kinetic theory, oscillations and waves, electrostatics, current electricity, magnetism, electromagnetic induction, alternating current, electromagnetic waves, optics, dual nature, atoms and nuclei, electronic devices and experimental skills.
Physics preparation should combine concepts, diagrams, units and calculation. Maintain a formula sheet but also record assumptions and common sign conventions. Experimental-skills questions deserve explicit preparation rather than being left to intuition.
Chemistry
Chemistry is divided across physical, inorganic and organic chemistry. Physical chemistry requires numerical practice and clear treatment of units and approximations. Inorganic chemistry benefits from close reading and repeated revision of authoritative textbook statements. Organic chemistry should be organised around electronic effects, mechanisms, reagent behaviour, conversions and exceptions instead of isolated reactions.

- Diagnose current performance with a timed previous paper.
- Prioritise prerequisite gaps before advanced problem sets.
- Maintain an error log tagged by concept, calculation, reading and time management.
- Retest weak units after spaced revision.
- Use full mock tests only after enough units are integrated.
What not to do
Do not rely solely on “chapter weightage” lists. Shift-level distributions vary and NTA does not guarantee a fixed number of questions from a chapter. Do not delete a low-frequency unit without understanding the risk. Equally, do not spend weeks perfecting one difficult chapter while leaving several moderate, learnable units untouched.
