Institution groups using JEE Main

JEE Main Paper 1 ranks form the principal admission basis for the NIT+ system administered through JoSAA/CSAB. This includes National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology, IIEST Shibpur and other Government Funded Technical Institutions listed for the year.

Many state-funded, deemed and private universities also accept JEE Main scores, but their admission may occur outside JoSAA. Candidates may need a separate application, counselling registration or fee. Always verify the institution’s official admission notice.

NITs

NIT admissions commonly use Home State and Other State quotas alongside category and gender pools. “Home State” follows the counselling state-code rule, not simply current residence. NITs vary considerably in branches, research, campus environment and location; the NIT label alone should not determine preference.

IIITs

IIITs focus strongly on information technology, computer science, electronics and related areas, but governance, fee structures, campus maturity and programme breadth vary. Some are centrally funded and some operate through public-private models. Compare the specific institute rather than assuming uniformity.

Other GFTIs and IIEST

The participating list includes institutions with different mandates and programme strengths. IIEST Shibpur and other GFTIs may offer excellent specialised programmes that are overlooked by candidates searching only for NITs.

How to evaluate a college-programme choice

1. Read the official curriculum and understand compulsory subjects.
2. Check approval, accreditation and degree-awarding status.
3. Compare audited or official placement reports—not only highest-package claims.
4. Review total cost: tuition, hostel, mess, travel and personal expenses.
5. Study campus housing, location, connectivity and student support.
6. Check branch-change rules; never select a branch assuming a change is guaranteed.
7. Review research laboratories, faculty and internships relevant to the branch.
8. Verify the exact programme name in the JoSAA seat matrix.
