What the JEE Main result contains

The scorecard reports identifying details and NTA scores for the relevant subjects and total. After the final session, NTA prepares the combined result and rank using the published normalisation and tie-resolution rules. Candidates who appeared in both sessions receive the benefit of the best applicable NTA score for ranking; raw marks from different sessions are not simply averaged.

Percentile, percentage and rank

An NTA percentile is a relative score. It indicates the proportion of candidates in the relevant shift-normalisation process who scored equal to or below a candidate. It is not the percentage of questions answered correctly and cannot be converted to marks with one universal formula.

The All India Rank is what seat-allocation systems use alongside category rank, eligibility, quota, choices and seat availability. A high percentile alone does not identify a guaranteed institute because closing ranks vary by programme, category, gender pool, state quota and round.

Tie resolution

For Paper 1, the 2026 rule considered Mathematics NTA score, then Physics, then Chemistry, followed by specified proportions of incorrect and correct attempts. If candidates remained tied after all listed criteria, they were assigned the same rank.

Result verification

Download the scorecard from the official portal and check application number, name, category and paper. Compare the final key and recorded response if the raw-score expectation differs. NTA does not provide routine re-evaluation or rechecking after the result under the bulletin rules.

What to do next

For NITs, IIITs, IIEST and GFTIs: register separately for JoSAA counselling, verify admission eligibility and prepare a choice list using official seat matrices and opening/closing ranks.

For IITs: check and complete the separate JEE Advanced application if eligible. JEE Main qualification is only the first stage.

For other institutions: review the institution’s official application procedure. Some accept JEE Main but require a separate application or counselling registration.

Explore participating colleges, engineering branches and the college directory before making decisions.

Preserve the scorecard

Save multiple digital copies and a print copy. NTA portals and historic download services may not remain available indefinitely. The scorecard, admit card and Class 12/category documents are commonly required during counselling and institutional reporting.
