Eligibility Criteria (UG and PG) for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

Eligibility depends on programme level, institution, university, entrance examination and admission category.

Students must verify both academic eligibility and entrance eligibility. Passing an examination does not automatically mean that the candidate satisfies the college’s subject and marks requirements.

Eligibility Criteria for UG Courses

For admission to a B.E. or B.Tech Artificial Intelligence and Data Science programme, candidates are generally expected to:

  • Complete Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board.
  • Study Physics and Mathematics as required subjects.
  • Study Chemistry, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, Biology or another approved subject where permitted.
  • Meet the minimum aggregate requirement fixed by the institution.
  • Appear for the accepted national, state or university-level entrance examination where required.
  • Participate in the appropriate counselling or admission process.
  • Provide valid academic, identity and category documents.

Many engineering institutions continue to use Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as the standard subject combination. Other institutions may permit a wider approved combination. Candidates should check the programme-specific rule rather than a general university statement.

Minimum marks vary. Some institutions may use 45 or 50 per cent as a basic requirement, while competitive programmes can have higher practical cut-offs because admission depends on rank and seat availability.

Students should also check how the aggregate is calculated. An institution may consider all subjects, selected subjects or a specified combination.

Eligibility for Lateral Entry

Diploma holders may be eligible for direct admission into the second year where lateral entry is available.

Common requirements may include:

  • A recognised engineering diploma
  • An accepted diploma specialisation
  • Minimum qualifying marks
  • A lateral-entry entrance examination
  • Availability of seats
  • Completion of bridge subjects

Not every institution offers lateral entry into Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Students must check the approved intake and entry rules.

Eligibility Criteria for PG Courses

For M.E., M.Tech, M.Sc., MCA or another postgraduate Artificial Intelligence and Data Science programme, candidates generally require a recognised bachelor’s degree.

Accepted backgrounds may include:

  • Computer Science Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Data Science
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Computer Applications
  • Other relevant disciplines approved by the institution

Additional requirements may include:

  • Minimum graduation marks
  • A valid postgraduate entrance score
  • Specific undergraduate subjects
  • Programming knowledge
  • An interview
  • Written assessment
  • Work experience for selected professional programmes

Candidates from a non-computing background may have to complete foundation subjects in programming, mathematics, algorithms or databases.
