Automation and Robotics Eligibility

Eligibility depends on programme level, institution and admission authority.

B.Tech or BE Eligibility

Candidates generally need to:

  • complete Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board;
  • study Physics and Mathematics as compulsory or accepted core subjects;
  • study an additional permitted subject;
  • obtain the minimum aggregate prescribed by the institution; and
  • qualify the applicable entrance or counselling process.

Many institutions use minimum marks around 45–60 per cent. Competitive universities may require higher marks or entrance ranks.

Some current programmes specifically require Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, while others publish a broader approved subject combination. Candidates must check the official notice.

Diploma Eligibility

Diploma applicants generally need Class 10 with Mathematics and Science. Some institutions admit Class 12 students.

Admission may use:

  • polytechnic entrance examination;
  • Class 10 merit;
  • state counselling; or
  • institutional selection.

B.Voc Eligibility

B.Voc programmes may accept:

  • Class 12;
  • Class 12 with a relevant skill certificate;
  • Class 10 plus ITI;
  • Class 10 plus diploma; or
  • another qualification prescribed by the institution.

Lateral-Entry Eligibility

Eligible candidates may enter the second year of a B.Tech or BE programme after completing:

  • an engineering diploma;
  • a BSc with Mathematics;
  • a D.Voc in the same or allied sector; or
  • another accepted qualification.

Minimum marks, entrance tests and bridge-course requirements vary.

M.Tech or ME Eligibility

Applicants generally need a relevant bachelor’s degree in:

  • Automation and Robotics;
  • Robotics Engineering;
  • Mechanical Engineering;
  • Mechatronics;
  • Electrical Engineering;
  • Electronics Engineering;
  • Instrumentation Engineering;
  • Production Engineering;
  • Computer Science for selected programmes; or
  • another accepted branch.

Many institutions require approximately 50–60 per cent or an equivalent CGPA. GATE may be required for admission or financial support.

MSc and Postgraduate Diploma Eligibility

MSc or postgraduate diploma programmes may accept graduates in Engineering, Physics, Electronics, Computer Science or related fields. Eligibility is programme-specific.

PhD Eligibility

PhD applicants generally need a relevant postgraduate qualification. Selection may include:

  • national examination;
  • institute test;
  • interview;
  • research proposal;
  • academic record; and
  • faculty-supervisor availability.

Documents Required for Admission

Candidates may need:

  • Class 10 certificate;
  • Class 12 marksheet;
  • diploma records;
  • undergraduate marksheets;
  • postgraduate records;
  • entrance-examination scorecard;
  • counselling letter;
  • transfer certificate;
  • migration certificate;
  • identity proof;
  • category certificate;
  • domicile certificate;
  • income certificate;
  • disability certificate;
  • passport-size photographs;
  • work-experience certificate; and
  • no-objection certificate for sponsored programmes.
