Cut-off, rank interpretation and admission chances
A qualifying threshold answers whether the applicant can continue; a closing rank describes the last allotment under a specific course, institution, category, quota, seat type and round. A candidate may qualify without receiving the preferred branch. Every published number must carry these labels and the year.
Previous closing ranks can support planning but cannot guarantee 2026 or a later round. Seat matrices, preferences and rules change. Divide choices into ambitious, realistic and safer groups, but include only programmes the candidate is genuinely prepared to join. Do not disguise a predicted cut-off as an official figure.
