Vellore Institute of Technology Hostel 2026

VIT Vellore hostel policy and capacity

The official Vellore hostel page reports 32 hostel blocks—21 men’s and 11 women’s blocks—serving more than 30,000 residents each year. According to the VITEEE FAQ, campus residence is compulsory for freshers unless a parent or guardian stays with the student. Hostel selection is therefore an early enrolment decision rather than simply a later accommodation preference.

Students can place accommodation costs alongside VIT’s course options, academic fees and the admission process when planning their first-year budget.

First-year men’s hostel fees for 2026-27

The official 2026-27 men’s hostel fee document separates room/admission fee, refundable caution deposit and mess fee. The examples below apply only to first-year men in the Indian category.

Block and room choice Mess choice Published total
MHN/MHP regular, 6-bed NAC Vegetarian ₹1,50,700
MHN/MHP regular, 6-bed AC Special ₹2,00,000
MHN/MHP regular, 2-bed NAC Vegetarian ₹1,70,900
MHN/MHP regular, 2-bed AC Special ₹2,30,400
MHQ deluxe, 8-bed AC Vegetarian ₹1,87,800
MHQ deluxe, 4-bed AC Non-vegetarian ₹2,20,200
MHQ deluxe, 2-bed AC Special ₹2,64,800

For Indian-category regular blocks MHN/MHP, the admission fee is ₹15,000 and the refundable caution deposit is ₹15,000. MHQ is identified separately as the deluxe option. The listed combinations show how occupancy, AC/NAC selection, block type and mess plan affect the payable total without assuming that one published example applies to every room.

Hostel payment caution: The fee includes up to 44 laundry washes and is subject to annual escalation. Under the conditions stated in the official document, no refund is available for a mess or room downgrade. Confirm the exact block, occupancy, cooling type and mess plan before payment.

Short decision checklist

  1. Establish whether the parent-or-guardian residence exception applies.
  2. Choose between regular MHN/MHP and deluxe MHQ availability.
  3. Compare AC or NAC and room occupancy before selecting the mess plan.
  4. Separate the ₹15,000 refundable caution deposit from non-refundable fee components.
  5. Retain the official fee document and payment receipt.
