PCM eligibility for the usual engineering route

For the ordinary B.E. and relevant M.Sc. route, the 2026 brochure requires a recognised 10+2 qualification with the specified subjects, including Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. It specifies a minimum of five subjects overall, including a language and an additional subject. The PCM aggregate must be at least 75%, and each of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics must individually be at least 60%.

Both conditions must be satisfied. An applicant with a strong combined percentage but less than sixty percent in one required subject does not meet the stated individual-subject threshold. Conversely, achieving sixty percent in each subject does not necessarily produce the seventy-five-percent aggregate. Checking only the overall school percentage can therefore give the wrong answer about eligibility.

An original illustration uses marks of 95, 85 and 55 out of 100 in the three subjects. The aggregate exceeds 75%, but the subject with 55 does not meet the individual requirement. Another applicant with 70 in all three clears the individual threshold but has only a 70% aggregate. These examples explain the two simultaneous conditions; they are not examples of candidates whose applications have been adjudicated.

The brochure says that theory and practical components are considered in calculating the percentages. Use the actual marks and maximum marks shown by the board, following the accepted calculation. If an equivalent qualification uses grades or a different assessment structure, obtain the required equivalence evidence. Do not invent a conversion or select only the component that produces the more favourable number.

Biology entry and programme-specific limits

The 2026 brochure provides a Mathematics-or-Biology subject option for B.Pharm., B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering and M.Sc. Biological Sciences. The same 75% aggregate and 60% individual-subject conditions apply to the relevant combination. PCB entrants to the identified programmes should possess Mathematics proficiency at Class 10 level. This is a specific exception, not permission to apply to every engineering programme without Class 12 Mathematics.

The distinction affects the entrance paper as well as the programme list. A candidate selecting Biology should understand which programmes that input permits. A strong Biology score does not automatically support an ordinary Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering preference. The admission system evaluates the qualification and chosen route together, rather than treating every score of the same size as equivalent for all courses.

The brochure also restricts the dual-degree options of students admitted to M.Sc. Biological Sciences through PCB input. Their eligible additional choices are B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering and B.Pharm., as stated in the document. An applicant should not choose this route on the assumption that it guarantees later access to any B.E. branch after the first year.

For a PCMB student, the decision is not simply which school subject feels easier. Compare the intended programmes, the permitted test option and the qualification requirements before selecting the route. The value of an entrance score depends on what it can be used for. Preparation should follow that decision so that effort is concentrated on the actual assigned subject combination.

Passing year, improvement examinations and equivalence

The 2026 eligibility text identifies students appearing in Class 12 in 2026 and those who passed in 2025. It also states a restriction on students already enrolled in a programme at a BITS campus. These are separate from the subject and percentage requirements. A candidate should establish the relevant passing year before assuming that a strong school result from an earlier year is sufficient for this cycle.

The updated brochure permits students who completed Class 12 in 2026 to take improvement examinations in specific subjects, subject to the stated result-submission deadline and unchanged pass status. That wording should not be replaced with a blanket claim that every improvement candidate must repeat all subjects. The precise year and circumstances still matter; this is not an unrestricted rule covering every older qualification or every later result date.

The brochure's narrative contains an earlier June submission reference while its revised date table provides an updated marks-and-preferences window. When an individual case depends on the exact deadline, the controlling portal instruction and applicable amendment must be read together. A student should not combine an old narrative date with a later schedule selectively to create a personally convenient rule.

For CAIE and IB qualifications, the brochure identifies the relevant A Level and Higher Level subject requirements. An equivalent international qualification should therefore be checked at the subject level, not just by the name of the school award. Keep the official result and any accepted equivalence documentation available for verification. A predicted grade is not automatically the final qualifying result required for admission.
