Mathematics and Biology paper distributions

The reviewed 2026 pattern has 100 multiple-choice questions in two hours. The standard paper assigns 50 questions to Mathematics and 25 each to Physics and Chemistry. The Biology-route table replaces the 50 Mathematics questions with 50 Biology questions. It does not add Biology as a fourth fifty-question block for every candidate.

The reported marking is one mark per correct answer with no negative marking. A student should follow the actual test instructions if a phase-specific document states an operational detail. The distribution makes the selected fifty-question subject central to preparation, but Physics and Chemistry together still account for the other half of the available marks.

One sentence in the reviewed secondary pattern page reverses the Biology instruction, while its labelled tables and surrounding explanation identify the Mathematics and Biology routes correctly. The table-based distinction is used here. Applicants should nevertheless verify the paper recorded in their own application rather than relying on a single sentence copied from a summary.

What the time limit means in practice

Two hours for one hundred questions gives an average of seventy-two seconds per item. This is a planning calculation, not a requirement to spend exactly that time on every question. A direct definition may take a few seconds, while a multi-step numerical problem can take longer. The objective is to use time where it produces correct answers.

An original practice allocation might reserve fifty-five minutes for Mathematics, twenty-five each for Physics and Chemistry, and fifteen for revisiting unresolved items. That allocation is not an official section timer. A Biology candidate or a student with different strengths may need another division. Test the allocation in practice before relying on it.

No negative marking makes it sensible to review unanswered valid questions before the test ends. It does not make all guessing equally useful. First use available knowledge to eliminate impossible options, then make a final selection within the permitted interface. Avoid spending most of the last few minutes on one uncertain item while several other questions remain unseen.

A useful mock record includes subject scores and time, not only the total. If a student scores 38 in Mathematics, 18 in Physics and 12 in Chemistry, the total is 68. That result suggests a different next step from another student's 25, 22 and 21, even though both totals are the same.
