Aircraft Manufacturing and Maintenance Engineering Eligibility

Eligibility depends on whether the candidate is applying for a diploma, undergraduate degree, integrated programme, postgraduate course or maintenance-licensing pathway.

Eligibility after Class 10: Some institutions offer diploma or vocational programmes after Class 10. Applicants may be required to have studied Mathematics and Science and to satisfy a minimum aggregate requirement. Not every diploma is available directly after Class 10, so candidates must check the official admission notice.

Eligibility after Class 12: For most undergraduate engineering programmes, candidates must complete Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board. Physics and Mathematics are generally compulsory, while Chemistry or another approved technical subject may also be required.

Many colleges ask for approximately 45–60 per cent aggregate marks. The exact percentage depends on the institution, programme, admission category and applicable reservation policy.

Eligibility for diploma holders: Candidates with a recognised engineering diploma may be eligible for first-year admission, lateral entry or an AME-related programme, depending on institutional and regulatory rules. Accepted diploma branches may include Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Aeronautical or related engineering disciplines.

Eligibility for postgraduate programmes: Applicants for ME or M.Tech generally require a BE or B.Tech in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical, Production, Manufacturing or another accepted engineering discipline. Some universities require a valid GATE score, while others conduct their own entrance test or admit students through qualifying-degree merit.

Medical and physical requirements: Certain aircraft maintenance training and operational roles may have medical or visual requirements. Colour-vision limitations can affect eligibility for some maintenance categories and aviation occupations. Candidates should obtain written clarification from the institution and, where relevant, the regulator before paying a non-refundable fee.

Age requirements: Degree programmes generally follow university admission rules. Licensing-oriented or institution-specific programmes may impose minimum-age conditions. Candidates should verify whether the stated age applies at admission, examination, completion or licence application.

International and NRI applicants: International applicants may need an equivalent qualification certificate, valid passport, student visa and other documents prescribed by the institution or university.

Documents Required for Admission

The typical admission file may include:

  • Class 10 marksheet and passing certificate;
  • Class 12 marksheet and passing certificate;
  • diploma or graduation records, if applicable;
  • transfer certificate;
  • migration certificate;
  • entrance-examination scorecard;
  • category or reservation certificate;
  • domicile or residence certificate;
  • passport-size photographs;
  • identity proof;
  • medical fitness or colour-vision certificate, where required;
  • character certificate;
  • income certificate for scholarship applications; and
  • passport and visa documents for international students.

Document requirements differ among colleges. Candidates should carry originals for verification and retain copies of every form, receipt and declaration submitted.
