How to shortlist a college
Begin with the award and curriculum. Check whether the programme is design-based, science-based, vocational or architecture-linked. Look for multiple studios, construction drawings, materials, services, furniture, lighting, sustainability, internship and professional practice.
Review faculty qualifications and recent student projects. A college should show process, drawings and prototypes, not only polished renderings. Ask how many students share a studio, how often individual feedback occurs and whether workshops are regularly available.
Workshop and studio facilities
Useful facilities include drafting studios, model-making areas, wood and metal workshops, material library, computer laboratory, printing support and safe storage. Digital fabrication is helpful when connected to learning, but basic tools and trained supervision remain essential.
Placement information
Ask for programme-specific numbers: eligible students, participating students, placed students, job roles, median salary and internship conversion. A university-wide highest package may come from another department and should not guide an Interior Architecture decision.
Location and site exposure
Cities with active design, construction, retail or hospitality sectors may offer site visits and internships, but living costs can be higher. A smaller city programme can still be strong if it has capable faculty, workshops and professional connections.
