Interior Architecture Entrance Exams

There is no single compulsory entrance examination for every Interior Architecture programme. The required test depends on the degree and institution.

UCEED

The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design is used for admission to B.Des programmes at participating institutions. Whether it leads to an interior-focused pathway depends on the institute's current programme structure and seat allocation.

NID Design Aptitude Test

The NID admission process evaluates design aptitude for programmes offered by participating NID campuses. Candidates must confirm current disciplines, eligibility and selection stages. An entrance score should not be connected to an Interior Architecture course that the selected campus does not offer.

NIFT Entrance Examination

NIFT uses its own admission process for design programmes. Students should verify the specialisations currently offered rather than assuming that every NIFT campus provides a course titled Interior Design or Interior Architecture.

University design tests

Private and deemed universities may conduct their own design aptitude tests, interviews and portfolio reviews. Examples of institute-level routes include MET for relevant Manipal design admission and individual university DAT processes. Patterns and dates can change each year.

NATA and JEE Main Paper 2A

These examinations are associated with B.Arch admission under applicable rules. They are relevant when a student chooses the professional architecture route, not automatically for every B.Des or BSc Interior Architecture programme.

Postgraduate design entrances

CEED is used by participating institutions for selected postgraduate design admissions. Other universities conduct their own aptitude test, discipline test, portfolio review and interview. Accepted undergraduate degrees and score requirements must be checked programme by programme.

Preparation strategy

Candidates should study the official test pattern, practise observation and visualisation, solve timed exercises and review previous papers where officially available. They should develop perspective, proportion, composition and logical reasoning rather than memorising decorative sketches.

A portfolio can grow through small, consistent work. Candidates may redesign a familiar corner, document a street or market, analyse an accessible route, build a cardboard prototype or study how daylight changes a room. Reflection is more valuable than imitation.
