Duration varies because Interior Architecture is an area of study rather than one uniform regulated degree title.

Four-year B.Des pattern

The first year builds visual and design foundations. Students learn drawing, colour, form, model-making, design history and communication. The second year introduces residential and small commercial studios, materials, furniture, ergonomics and construction drawings.

The third year may address complex commercial, hospitality, institutional or adaptive-reuse projects. Building services, lighting, acoustics, professional practice and digital workflows become more important. The final year normally includes advanced studio, internship, research and a major project.

Studio and contact hours

Design education involves more than classroom lectures. Studio sessions, workshops, jury preparation, site visits and model-making can extend beyond the timetable. Students must plan work instead of leaving every drawing and model until the night before submission.

Internship duration

Internships may last several weeks or one semester. Students can work with interior design studios, architecture practices, furniture firms, retail design teams, contractors, lighting consultants or material companies. The institution should define learning objectives and review the student's work.

Part-time and online study

Short theory or software modules can be learned online, but complete design education benefits from studio criticism, physical materials, workshops and site exposure. Students considering an online or part-time award should check recognition, practical delivery, assessment and employer acceptance.
