Check Class 12 subjects, Mathematics, marks, diploma routes, postgraduate prerequisites and programme-specific entry rules.
Internet of Things Eligibility
Eligibility changes by institution and programme title. Candidates must use the current official admission brochure.
BE/B.Tech eligibility
Applicants generally need to pass Class 12 or an equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and one approved additional subject. Common additional subjects include Chemistry, Computer Science, IT, Electronics, Biology, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational subjects, Agriculture, Engineering Graphics or another subject accepted under the applicable rules.
Many institutions prescribe at least 45 per cent in the relevant subjects, with 40 per cent for specified reserved categories. Others require 50, 60 or a different threshold. Passing the eligibility test does not guarantee admission because entrance rank and seat availability also matter.
Diploma and lateral entry
Eligible engineering diploma holders may apply for direct second-year admission where lateral entry is permitted. Accepted diploma branches, minimum marks, entrance process and seat vacancies vary by state and university.
Some systems also allow eligible B.Sc graduates with Mathematics, subject to bridge requirements. Candidates should verify the remaining duration and whether the exact IoT specialisation accepts lateral-entry students.
Diploma programme eligibility
A diploma in electronics, computer, electrical, instrumentation or a related engineering area commonly requires Class 10, though some programmes use Class 12. Polytechnic admissions may be based on a state test or qualifying marks.
A private training certificate labelled diploma may not have the same academic status as a recognised polytechnic diploma. Students should confirm the awarding body, approval and progression options.
M.Tech eligibility
Postgraduate IoT programmes commonly accept BE/B.Tech in CSE, IT, ECE, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation or related engineering fields. Some accept Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical or other branches, and selected institutions accept MCA or M.Sc in Computer Science, Electronics, Instrumentation or Physics.
Minimum marks commonly range from 50 to 60 per cent. Sponsored categories may require work experience. Departments may prescribe bridge courses when an applicant lacks programming, electronics or computing foundations.
GATE eligibility and accepted papers
Meeting GATE's general eligibility does not establish eligibility for a particular M.Tech. Each department specifies accepted qualifying degrees and GATE papers. CS, EC, EE, IN or DA may be relevant according to the programme, but candidates must check the current notice.
Mathematics and programming preparation
Mathematics supports circuits, signals, algorithms, probability and optimisation. School-level Computer Science is usually not compulsory for undergraduate admission, but early practice in basic programming can ease the first year.
Students should not fear electronics if they have not built devices before. Laboratories introduce components progressively. Careful measurement, patience and safe handling matter more than prior hobby experience.
Eligibility documents
Common documents include Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, passing certificates, entrance scorecard, identity proof, photographs, migration or transfer certificate and category or domicile documents where applicable. Lateral-entry and PG candidates need diploma or degree records.
Applicants awaiting results should confirm provisional admission rules. Name, date of birth and category details should be consistent across documents.
