Petroleum Engineering Eligibility

Eligibility differs between institutions and counselling systems. PCM is the standard subject combination for major national routes, although some institutions state broader optional-subject lists while keeping Physics and Mathematics compulsory. Course application: petroleum production.

Class 12 eligibility

Candidates generally need to pass Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board. Physics and Mathematics are commonly compulsory, with Chemistry or another approved subject included under the applicable institutional rules. Course application: petroleum production.

Can PCB students apply?

PCB students without Mathematics generally cannot use the main Petroleum Engineering BTech routes because Mathematics is required. They should not assume Biology can replace Mathematics unless a specific institution explicitly permits it.

Can PCM students apply?

PCM is the standard and safest combination for BTech Petroleum Engineering. Students must also satisfy marks and entrance requirements.

Diploma eligibility

Diploma Petroleum Engineering programmes commonly admit students after Class 10 under state-board rules. Science and Mathematics and a minimum aggregate may be required.

Lateral entry

Eligible diploma holders can enter the second year of BTech in institutions offering lateral entry. Some states also permit relevant BSc graduates under specific conditions. IITs and NITs do not normally offer this direct second-year pathway. MTech eligibility
