Climate-risk planning
Climate-responsive planning regions need more than a general promise of resilience. Designers should examine plausible heat, drought, intense rainfall, fire or coastal scenarios for the specific location. They identify critical functions and how the site should fail safely.
Plant selection can diversify risk across species and water needs. Drainage should include overflow routes, while shade plans should account for the years before young trees mature. Emergency access and refuge requirements may influence open-space layout.
