GITAM GAT Counselling

GITAM GAT 2026: Counselling. 2026 information reviewed on 25 September; retain the stated verification limits.

Reading the programme-specific GAT scholarship table

The reviewed 2026 programme pages display GAT scholarship bands on a score scale up to 200. Their structure differs from a simplified percentage-based scholarship summary on the general admissions page. The programme table is the more specific reference for the examples here, subject to the written award and applicable conditions.

GAT score band shown Assured scholarship shown Interview-linked higher level shown
141–200 60% Up to 100%
131–140 40% Up to 75%
121–130 40% Up to 60%
111–120 40% Not applicable
101–110 25% Not applicable
86–100 15% Not applicable

The page labels the final column as an additional scholarship linked to interview performance. Do not arithmetically add 60% and 100% to claim a 160% waiver. Ask the university to confirm the total awarded percentage and the fee components to which it applies. An “up to” amount is an upper limit, not an automatic entitlement for everyone in the row.

The programme pages state that entrance-based scholarships apply initially to the first year and require at least an 8.0 CGPA for continuation in later years. Applicants should obtain the complete renewal conditions and understand how the CGPA is assessed. A first-year award should not be multiplied across all four years as an unconditional saving.

Interview preparation for a higher scholarship

Where an interview influences a higher scholarship level, preparation should focus on explaining academic interests and demonstrated work. A student can discuss a school project, a programming exercise, a scientific model or a problem that prompted further study. The explanation should distinguish what the student personally did from work completed by a teacher or teammate.

For a project, describe the objective, the approach, a difficulty and the evidence that the result worked. If a sensor-based model gave unstable readings, explain how the readings were checked and what limitation remained. An honest account of a small project can be more informative than unsupported claims about a sophisticated system.

Prepare to explain the intended branch in terms of its subjects. Interest in computer science might involve algorithms or software systems, while interest in electronics might involve devices and circuits. There is no need to invent a fixed career plan, but a reasoned connection between current interests and the curriculum helps make the choice understandable.

An interview invitation is not a scholarship confirmation. After the process, obtain the awarded percentage, applicable fee base, duration and conditions in writing. Keep that record with the admission letter so that the payment calculation can be checked against the actual award.

Campus-specific fees and why one number is insufficient

The reviewed Bengaluru CSE programme page lists first-year regular B.Tech tuition of ₹1,79,700 for each semester, totalling ₹3,59,400. The general fee page displays a CSE entry of ₹2,04,200 per semester, but the retrieved general view does not establish the campus selector's context. Those entries should not be treated as one interchangeable university-wide fee.

The Bengaluru programme page also separates lateral-entry figures from regular first-year figures. A student entering after Class 12 should not use a lateral-entry row simply because it appears under the same course title. The point of entry and academic year need to match the applicant's offer.

The reviewed programme page mentions a 3% discount for full first-year payment and a 5–8% increase in subsequent-year tuition. The exact payable amount and interaction with scholarships should be confirmed in the written fee schedule. Do not combine discounts by assumption or present the first-year tuition multiplied by four as a guaranteed degree cost.

Tuition is only one budget component. Accommodation, food, transport, personal expenses and any separately listed charges need their own entries. An article can report a verified tuition figure without claiming that it covers every expense of living and studying at the campus.

A worked budget example without an invented offer

The following is hypothetical arithmetic, not a university quotation. Suppose confirmed annual tuition is ₹3,60,000 and a written scholarship covers 25% of that tuition. The tuition reduction is ₹90,000, leaving ₹2,70,000. If accommodation and food are separately estimated at ₹1,20,000, those costs must be added unless the award explicitly covers them.

The resulting illustrative total is ₹3,90,000 before other expenses. Calling this a 25% reduction in the entire cost would be wrong because the assumed scholarship applies only to tuition. Separating the fee base from the overall budget prevents the advertised scholarship percentage from overstating the family's actual saving.

Now consider a later year with tuition 6% higher and no renewed scholarship. Tuition would become ₹3,81,600 under this assumed increase, rather than the original discounted ₹2,70,000. This is a stress-test scenario, not a prediction of the student's result or the university's exact future fee. Its purpose is to show the financial effect of conditional renewal.

Also record when payments are due. Two plans with the same annual total can require different amounts at the start of the year. A discount for early full payment may reduce the total while increasing the immediate cash requirement. Compare both dimensions before deciding which payment arrangement is practical.

Other scholarship categories and supporting evidence

Official programme pages describe other scholarship categories, including need-based, sports, employee-family and loyalty-related provisions. Their conditions should be checked for the selected programme. A category name does not establish that every applicant with a broadly similar background receives the same percentage or can combine it with another award.

For need-based consideration, clarify the relevant family-income definition, documentary period and acceptable evidence. For sports consideration, identify the level of participation and achievement that the policy recognises. A school participation certificate and a recognised competitive achievement may receive different treatment under an actual policy.

Ask explicitly whether benefits can be combined, upgraded or applied to separate fee components. Adding every advertised percentage together can produce an impossible budget. The written scholarship decision should state the final applicable support rather than leaving the applicant to infer how several categories interact.

Accommodation-related benefits also need separate confirmation. A tuition waiver does not automatically cover every hostel or food charge, and an accommodation scholarship may apply only under stated conditions. Keep these benefits on separate budget lines so that any change can be understood without rebuilding the entire calculation.

Documents, offers and reporting

An admission offer should identify the candidate and programme clearly. Check the campus, course title, entry year, financial terms and deadlines before accepting. A typographical error in a name is different from an offer for the wrong programme, but both should be raised promptly through the official channel.

Prepare the academic and identity evidence requested for verification. If an original document is still being issued by the board, ask what provisional evidence is acceptable and by when the final document is needed. Do not assume that uploading a provisional result automatically resolves every later verification condition.

Keep a copy of the accepted offer, payment receipt and reporting instructions. These documents answer different questions: what was offered, what was paid and what must happen next. A payment receipt alone does not describe the academic conditions, while an offer letter alone does not prove that a required payment was completed.

Before travelling, confirm the reporting location and whether the activity is online or on campus. An admissions office, teaching department and hostel office may handle different tasks. Planning around the actual instructions can prevent an unnecessary visit or a missed document-verification step.

Withdrawal and comparing a later offer

If another institution offers a preferred place, compare the alternatives using their written conditions before withdrawing. Read the applicable cancellation schedule for the GITAM payment already made, including deadlines, deductions and the process for submitting a request. A general statement about refundable fees is not enough to calculate a specific refund.

Submit any withdrawal through the authorised channel and retain acknowledgement. A telephone conversation expressing an intention to leave may not complete the required process. Likewise, not attending classes does not necessarily constitute a valid cancellation request under the applicable policy.

The comparison should include academic fit, documented cost, travel, accommodation and the certainty of each offer. A provisional alternative that still depends on an unmet condition should not be treated as a confirmed replacement. The decision is easier when the unresolved conditions are written beside each option.

This guide does not supply an unverified refund percentage or promise a processing time. Those details depend on the operative policy and the applicant's payment and withdrawal dates. Use the current written university policy and obtain clarification for any case that does not fit its stated categories.

Checking accommodation before committing

Accommodation decisions should be tied to the actual campus and reporting period. Ask which room category is available, what the quoted amount includes and whether food, utilities, deposits or transport are separate. A room photograph or a general hostel description does not establish availability for a particular applicant on the required date.

Compare a campus accommodation option with an off-campus estimate using the same time period. A monthly rent figure cannot be compared directly with an annual hostel-and-food figure. Include commuting costs and the time required to reach early classes or laboratories. The cheaper rent can produce a higher practical cost if travel is substantial.

For a shared room, clarify occupancy and the process for room allocation or changes. If accessibility or another specific requirement matters, raise it before payment so that the university can confirm what arrangement is possible. Do not assume that a standard room allocation automatically meets an individual requirement that has never been communicated.

Keep the accommodation confirmation separate from the academic seat confirmation. Securing one does not necessarily complete the other. This distinction is useful when a student has accepted admission but is still deciding where to live, or when a family is arranging travel before the final hostel instructions have arrived.
