Programme Duration and Study Formats

Programme Normal duration Learning pattern
M.Tech or M.E. Two years, usually four semesters Advanced coursework, laboratories, electives, seminar and dissertation or major project
B.Tech or B.E. with a manufacturing specialisation Four years, usually eight semesters Engineering foundations followed by manufacturing, automation, digital systems and projects
Integrated degree Commonly five years where currently active Undergraduate foundations followed by postgraduate depth; current availability must be verified
B.Voc Commonly three years Skill-led semesters with practical training and possible exit provisions under institute rules
Diploma Usually three years after Class 10 Workshop, production, drawing, machines, measurement and applied technical learning
Certificate or executive programme A few days to about one year Focused training in CNC, additive manufacturing, robotics, metrology, Industry 4.0 or a related tool
PhD Variable Coursework, research reviews, original investigation and thesis

What happens during a two-year M.Tech?

The first year commonly develops advanced manufacturing processes, CAD/CAM, automation, metrology, optimisation, materials, robotics, additive manufacturing and research methods. The later semesters move toward electives, literature review, experimental or computational work, dissertation planning, validation and technical writing. The exact sequence belongs to the university curriculum.

Full-time, part-time and sponsored formats

Full-time students normally follow the complete semester schedule and laboratory plan. Part-time or sponsored formats may spread study across a longer period and impose workplace, attendance or employer conditions. A programme described as two years should not be assumed to have the same weekly timetable for every category.

Backlogs, delayed experiments, equipment access, an incomplete dissertation or missed academic requirements can extend completion. Students should check the maximum permitted registration period, project review schedule and rules for changing the dissertation topic or supervisor.
