Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Course Duration

AME duration cannot be reduced to one universal number because portals combine basic training, academic degrees and practical experience.

Published programme durations commonly range from about two to four years because listings may combine basic training, academic study, practical experience and integrated arrangements. Individual offerings can use two-year, three-year, 42-month, four-year or other structures, so duration must be confirmed from the current approved programme documents.

• Degree duration, if pursued separately

Basic AME training

Basic training is structured according to the approved programme and category. It includes theoretical instruction and practical work.

The number of training hours, programme length and practical share should be confirmed from the institute’s approval documents and current regulations.

Practical maintenance experience

Practical maintenance experience is essential to licensing progress. It may be obtained in:

• Airlines
• Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul organisations
• Approved maintenance organisations
• Other accepted aviation-maintenance environments

Students should confirm whether the institute merely assists with experience placement or contractually includes it.

Four-year integrated arrangements

Some organisations advertise arrangements combining approximately two years of basic training with approximately two years of maintenance experience, while others use a different division of classroom, workshop and industry exposure.

This should not be assumed to be the standard structure of every institute.

B.Tech duration

A university B.Tech Aircraft Maintenance Engineering programme generally takes four years and eight semesters.

B.Sc duration

A B.Sc Aircraft Maintenance or Aircraft Maintenance Science programme commonly takes three years, depending on the university.

Diploma or certificate duration

Diploma and certificate programmes can take two to three years or another period defined by the awarding body.

Type training duration

Aircraft-type training duration varies by aircraft, category and approved course. It should be treated as a later specialised stage rather than being automatically included in every basic AME programme.
