Follow course verification, application, entrance examination, counselling, document checks and final admission.

Biochemical Engineering Admission Process

Admission may be based on entrance-examination rank, counselling, qualifying marks or an institutional process.

BTech admission process

A typical process is:

  1. Complete Class 12 with the required subjects.
  2. Apply for the relevant engineering entrance examination.
  3. Appear for the examination.
  4. Register for counselling or apply to the university.
  5. Submit college and branch preferences.
  6. Receive a seat based on rank, category and availability.
  7. Complete document verification.
  8. Pay the seat-acceptance and admission fees.
  9. Report to the institution.

Possible admission routes include:

  • JEE Main
  • JEE Advanced for applicable IIT programmes
  • State engineering entrance examinations
  • University-specific tests
  • Qualifying-examination merit at selected institutions

Admission through JEE Main

Institutions such as HBTU and other participating colleges may use JEE Main through their notified counselling process.

Candidates should confirm whether the programme is listed as Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Technology–Biochemical Engineering or another title.

Admission through JEE Advanced

JEE Advanced is relevant to admission at the IITs. It is not compulsory for all Biochemical Engineering programmes.

Programme names at IITs can differ. A department may offer Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering, Biosciences and Bioengineering, or a related interdisciplinary programme.

State counselling

State examinations and counselling systems may offer admission to combined programmes such as Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering. Students must review the current seat matrix.

Direct or institutional admission

Private institutions may fill permitted seats through university tests, merit or institutional procedures. Candidates should verify:

  • Official fee structure
  • Eligibility
  • Approval
  • Refund rules
  • Degree title
  • Programme continuity
  • Placement information

No agent should be trusted solely on verbal promises.

MTech admission process

A postgraduate process may include:

  1. Complete an eligible BE or BTech degree.
  2. Appear for GATE or the prescribed examination.
  3. Register for counselling or the university portal.
  4. Submit academic records.
  5. Attend an interview where required.
  6. Receive a merit-based offer.
  7. Complete verification and fee payment.

Some institutions may accept the GATE Chemical Engineering paper, Biotechnology paper or another specified paper. Applicants must check the accepted paper.

MSc admission process

MSc admission may use CUET PG, an institutional examination, bachelor’s marks or an interview.

Documents commonly required
