Follow course verification, application, entrance examination, counselling, document checks and final admission.

Biomedical Engineering Admission Process

Admission may be based on entrance examinations, counselling, university tests or Class 12 merit.

Undergraduate admission process

A general process includes:

  1. Pass Class 12 with the required subjects.
  2. Identify active Biomedical Engineering programmes.
  3. Verify PCM, PCB or PCMB eligibility.
  4. Register for the accepted examination.
  5. Appear for the examination.
  6. Register for counselling or apply to the university.
  7. Fill programme preferences.
  8. Receive a seat allotment.
  9. Complete document verification.
  10. Pay the admission fee.
  11. Report to the institution.

JEE Main admission

JEE Main may be used by NITs, universities and other participating institutions. Applicants should verify the current seat matrix.

Some universities accept JEE Main along with their own examinations or Class 12 marks.

JEE Advanced admission

JEE Advanced is used for IIT undergraduate admission. It is relevant to Biomedical Engineering programmes offered through the IIT admission system.

It is not compulsory for every Biomedical Engineering college.

TNEA admission

Many Biomedical Engineering programmes in Tamil Nadu use the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions process.

Selection is generally based on the notified Class 12 marks and counselling procedure rather than a separate TNEA entrance test.

Students should check current:

  • Academic eligibility
  • Category rules
  • Merit calculation
  • Counselling dates
  • Seat availability
  • College affiliation

State engineering examinations

Admission may also use:

  • AP EAPCET
  • TG EAPCET
  • MHT CET
  • KCET
  • KEAM
  • Other state examinations

Participation changes each year.

University examinations

Private universities may use their own engineering examinations, aptitude tests or interviews. Some accept JEE Main or state scores as alternatives.

Merit-based admission

Selected institutions use Class 12 marks and centralised counselling. Students should understand whether admission is based on overall marks or specific subjects.

Postgraduate admission

MTech admission may involve:

  • GATE
  • State postgraduate examinations
  • University entrance test
  • Academic merit
  • Interview
  • Sponsored-candidate procedures

Candidates should check which GATE paper is accepted. Possible papers may include Biomedical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering or another specified paper.

Documents required

Common documents include:

  • Class 10 marksheet and certificate
  • Class 12 marksheet and certificate
  • Entrance scorecard
  • Counselling allotment letter
  • Diploma documents for lateral entry
  • Bachelor’s marksheets for PG admission
  • Degree or provisional certificate
  • Transfer certificate
  • Migration certificate
  • Character certificate
  • Category certificate
  • Domicile certificate
  • Income certificate
  • Identity document
  • Passport-sized photographs
  • Medical certificate where required
  • Anti-ragging declarations

Admission precautions

Students should confirm:

  • Course approval
  • University affiliation
  • Exact degree title
  • Official fee
  • Refund rules
  • Functional laboratories
  • Hospital exposure
  • Internship support
  • Programme-specific placement information
  • Official receipt for payments
