Check Class 12 subjects, Mathematics, marks, diploma routes, postgraduate prerequisites and programme-specific entry rules.
Biomedical Engineering Eligibility
Eligibility varies among institutions and admission systems.
BE or BTech eligibility
Common requirements include:
- Passing Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board
- Studying Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects at many engineering institutions
- Studying an additional approved subject such as Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Computer Science or a technical vocational subject
- Obtaining the prescribed aggregate marks
- Participating in the accepted admission process
The minimum may commonly range from 45% to 60% or more. Relaxation may apply to eligible reserved categories.
PCM eligibility
PCM is the standard subject combination for many Biomedical Engineering programmes, particularly those offered through conventional engineering counselling.
Mathematics is important for:
- Circuit analysis
- Signal Processing
- Medical Imaging
- Biomechanics
- Control Systems
- Programming
- Data analysis
Students without Class 12 Biology can learn foundational Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry during the programme.
PCB eligibility
Some universities accept PCB students for Biomedical Engineering, particularly when the curriculum and institutional admission rules support Biology-based entry.
PCB students must verify:
- Whether Mathematics is compulsory
- Whether a bridge Mathematics course is provided
- Which entrance-test group they should select
- Whether the degree is a BE/BTech
- Whether later technical programmes require Mathematics
- Whether placement criteria impose additional academic conditions
PCB eligibility is not universal.
PCMB eligibility
PCMB students may satisfy both Mathematics- and Biology-based requirements. They must still meet the minimum marks and entrance conditions.
Biomedical Instrumentation eligibility
Biomedical Instrumentation programmes commonly require Physics and Mathematics with another approved subject. Exact conditions depend on the university.
ECE with Biomedical Engineering eligibility
Eligibility generally follows the parent Electronics and Communication Engineering programme. Physics and Mathematics are normally central requirements.
Students should confirm whether the final degree title includes the specialisation and whether general ECE placements accept the programme.
Integrated BTech–MTech eligibility
Eligibility generally follows the undergraduate course. Students should check:
- Total duration
- Exit options
- Degree awarded
- Minimum academic requirements
- Specialisation rules
- Total fees
- Dissertation structure
Lateral-entry eligibility
Eligible diploma holders may enter the second year where lateral entry is offered.
Common requirements include:
- A recognised engineering or technology diploma
- A relevant branch
- The minimum diploma aggregate
- Participation in the institution’s lateral-entry process
- Availability of seats
Accepted branches may include Biomedical, Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation or another approved discipline.
MTech Biomedical Engineering eligibility
A postgraduate programme may accept BE or BTech graduates from:
- Biomedical Engineering
- Electronics and Communication Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Instrumentation Engineering
- Medical Electronics
- Biotechnology
- Mechanical Engineering
- Computer Science
- Bioengineering
- Another related branch specified by the institution
Some interdisciplinary programmes may also accept relevant science, medical or allied qualifications. Candidates should verify the exact eligibility list.
PhD eligibility
Doctoral admission generally requires:
- A relevant postgraduate degree
- The prescribed marks or CGPA
- An entrance examination or accepted national qualification
- Research interview
- Suitable research interest
- Availability of a supervisor
Eligibility checklist
Before applying, confirm:
- Programme title
