Typical four-year progression

The first year establishes Engineering Mathematics, Physics, basic electrical and electronics concepts, programming, graphics, workshop practice and professional communication. Students from different school boards reach a common foundation.

The second year introduces data structures, digital logic, computer organisation, object-oriented programming, discrete Mathematics, database systems and operating systems. Laboratory exercises become more substantial.

The third year normally includes algorithms, computer networks, microprocessors, software engineering, theory of computation, web technologies and electives. Students begin internships, team projects and role-specific preparation.

The fourth year offers advanced electives, project work, seminars and often an internship. Options may cover artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, VLSI, embedded systems, IoT, data science, distributed systems or computer vision.

Academic workload

A four-year programme includes lectures, tutorials, coding laboratories, hardware experiments, assignments, internal assessments, examinations and projects. Students should expect substantial independent practice. Programming cannot be mastered only by reading notes.

Internship duration

An internship may range from a few weeks to an entire semester according to the university. Suitable environments include software companies, electronics firms, IT departments, startups, manufacturing technology teams, research laboratories and network organisations.

Students should favour internships that provide defined technical work, supervision and feedback. A certificate without actual contribution has limited value in an interview.

Major project

The final project allows students to integrate requirements, design, coding, hardware where relevant, testing and documentation. Examples include an embedded monitoring device, secure web system, network analyser, low-cost computing platform, intelligent sensor node, operating-system component or distributed application.

The scope should match time and resources. A smaller system that works reliably and has measured results is preferable to an unrealistic product assembled from copied modules.
