| Institute of Design, Nirma University | BDes Product and Interaction Design; related expanded title | UCEED or current notified route |
| MIT-WPU School of Design, Pune | Four-year BDes Product Design | University-notified design selection |
| D.Y. Patil University, Pune | Four-year BDes Product Design | University-notified route |
| Symbiosis Institute of Design, Pune | Four-year BDes Product Design | SEED and notified selection stages |
| Symbiosis School of Planning, Architecture and Design, Nagpur | Four-year BDes Product Design | SEED and notified selection stages |

Understanding programme names
Some institutes admit students to a common BDes foundation before discipline allocation. Others admit directly to Product Design, Product Design, Furniture Design, Transportation Design or a broader product-and-industrial programme. A title alone does not show the complete curriculum, so candidates should review semester subjects and project examples.
Product Design should not be confused with Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering or Industrial and Production Engineering. Those courses concentrate more on manufacturing systems, operations, productivity and engineering management. They may interact professionally with designers, but their educational purpose and admission route are different.
How to shortlist a college
Compare foundation quality, studio culture, faculty interests, batch size, elective flexibility and access to workshops. Look for student work that demonstrates research, form development, prototyping and testing. An institute should support physical making as well as digital visualisation.
Location can influence internships and industry exposure, but it should not be the only criterion. A smaller institute with active studios and committed faculty may suit a student better than a famous university where the desired specialisation has limited resources. Campus visits, exhibitions and conversations with current students can reveal everyday access more clearly than brochures.
Facilities to check
Useful facilities include wood, metal, plastics and model-making workshops; clay and foam facilities; CAD and rendering laboratories; photography space; laser cutting; CNC equipment; and additive manufacturing. Equipment is valuable only when students receive training and reasonable access. Safety procedures, technicians and material storage also matter.
Faculty and curriculum checks
Review faculty portfolios, research areas and professional experience. A balanced curriculum should cover users, form, materials, manufacturing, ergonomics, sustainability, business and communication. Students interested in mobility, medical products, furniture or interaction should confirm that electives and mentors exist in those areas.
Internship and placement evidence
Ask where students completed internships, what work they performed and which portfolio projects helped them. For placements, examine role titles, number of participating students, median or typical outcomes and whether offers were in Product Design, product design, UX, research or unrelated sectors. One exceptional package cannot represent an entire batch.
Related courses
Relevant alternatives include Product Design, Transportation and Mobility Design, Furniture and Interior Product Design, Interaction Design, User Experience Design and Design for Retail Experience. Mechanical Engineering can support product development from a technical direction, but it is not a direct substitute for studio-based Product Design education.
