CUCET 2026 Eligibility

Eligibility must be checked programme by programme

Undergraduate engineering eligibility combines the school qualification, required subjects and minimum marks for the selected programme. The reviewed 2026 permitted coverage lists a 60% aggregate condition for several standard engineering programmes, including Mechanical and Civil Engineering, with Physics and Mathematics compulsory and an accepted additional science or computing subject.

The same coverage lists different subject arrangements for programmes such as Biotechnology and Food Technology, with Physics compulsory and two subjects selected from the stated alternatives. These exceptions should not be applied to every engineering branch. A Biology-based route to one programme does not establish eligibility for all computing or mechanical options.

This review could not retrieve a complete populated current official programme-by-programme eligibility table from the dynamic university page. The reported examples are therefore secondary-supported, and applicants should obtain the exact current requirement for their selected campus and specialisation. No single aggregate rule is imposed across every B.E. or B.Tech title.

Where the rule uses aggregate marks, establish which subjects and components enter that calculation. A best-of-five percentage, a PCM percentage and an overall board percentage can differ. Do not choose whichever calculation gives the highest result unless that is the calculation the programme actually requires.

Illustrating marks and subject checks

Suppose a programme asks for a defined three-subject aggregate, and the relevant marks are 64, 58 and 70 out of 100. Their total is 192 out of 300, giving 64%. This example demonstrates the arithmetic only. It does not establish that those three subjects are the accepted combination for an individual programme.

A student with a strong overall percentage but a missing compulsory subject faces a different issue from a student with the right subjects but insufficient marks. The first requires a qualification or subject-eligibility decision; the second concerns the minimum threshold. Neither issue is resolved merely by doing well in CUCET.

Applicants with an equivalent board qualification, a changed subject combination or a pending result should present the actual records when seeking clarification. A short description such as science student may omit the detail that matters. The university needs the exact qualification and programme to assess the case correctly.

For students still awaiting final results, distinguish provisional application from final admission. Enter the status through the accepted process rather than inventing marks. Any later offer may require the final result by a specified date, and that condition remains meaningful even if the entrance test has already been completed.

Exemption wording and scholarship purpose

The official FAQ says candidates with more than 90% in the relevant qualifying examination can be exempted from taking CUCET for the stated mandatory-programme admission context. Its question heading and answer are not perfectly aligned at the exact 90% boundary. Applicants at exactly 90% should obtain confirmation rather than silently treating more than as at least.

An entrance exemption and a CUCET scholarship are separate matters. The exemption statement does not itself award a scholarship slab based on a CUCET score that the candidate has not obtained. If financial support is important to the decision, establish the applicable scholarship route and its evidence requirements independently.

The official page recommends taking the test as a precaution where the qualifying result is not yet declared. A predicted school percentage is not the same as a final result establishing an exemption. Applicants should base their decision on the actual rule and their documented status.

Do not assume that another national examination score automatically replaces CUCET for every programme. Chandigarh University publishes separate scholarship and admission arrangements, and their conditions differ. Identify the exact scheme instead of treating all entrance scores as interchangeable proof of admission or funding.
