CUCET 2026 Exam Pattern

The undergraduate engineering paper

The official CUCET pattern specifies 100 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes. Each question carries one mark, and there is no negative marking. For the Class 12 non-medical category, the distribution is as follows.

The corresponding medical-background table uses Biology in place of Mathematics and retains Chemistry. That table should be used only for the appropriate eligible programme and assigned route. It is not evidence that Biology can replace Mathematics for every engineering course.

The English and Aptitude components together account for a quarter of the non-medical paper. A preparation plan copied from a three-subject engineering examination would omit them. At the same time, the three larger subject blocks require consistent attention because each contributes twenty-five marks.

Understanding the two-hour limit

One hundred questions in two hours gives an average of seventy-two seconds per question. This average is a planning aid, not a fixed per-question timer. A direct English item may take less time than a numerical Physics question, allowing time to be distributed according to difficulty.

An initial practice allocation might give more time to Mathematics and calculations while keeping a protected block for English and Aptitude. Test any allocation in full simulations. The best arrangement is the one that allows the student to reach and answer the entire paper accurately within the interface's rules.

No negative marking makes it sensible to address remaining unanswered questions before the session ends. First use knowledge and elimination, then make the final permitted selection. Do not spend the last few minutes repeatedly reconsidering one difficult item while several questions remain unseen.

A mock record should include section accuracy and time. A score of 65 can arise from a balanced paper or from strong science with weak English and Aptitude. The next study step depends on that distribution, not only the total.
