Chemical Science and Technology Eligibility

Eligibility depends on the institution. IIT Guwahati follows IIT admission rules through JEE Advanced. NIT Mizoram follows NIT admission rules through JEE Main.

Class 12 qualification

Candidates generally need to pass Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. They must meet the current performance conditions for IIT or NIT admission.

IIT Guwahati eligibility

Applicants first satisfy JEE Main conditions and become eligible for JEE Advanced. They qualify JEE Advanced, meet Class 12 requirements and participate in JoSAA. The examination rules concerning attempts, passing year and subjects apply.

NIT Mizoram eligibility

Applicants qualify JEE Main Paper 1 and meet the current Class 12 criteria for NIT admission. Recent public course information has referred to the standard 75 per cent or top-20-percentile condition, with applicable category provisions, but candidates must use the current official rules.

Can PCB students apply?

PCB students without Mathematics generally cannot use these BTech admission routes. Mathematics is required for JEE Main and JEE Advanced BTech pathways.

Can PCM students apply?

PCM is the expected subject combination. Students should also satisfy examination and counselling conditions.

Minimum marks

IIT and NIT admission performance requirements can change through official policy. Candidates should not rely on a general 50 or 60 per cent figure used by unrelated colleges.

Diploma and lateral entry

IIT Guwahati and NIT Mizoram do not normally offer direct second-year lateral entry into these regular BTech programmes. Diploma holders may apply through first-year routes if they meet current entrance and Class 12-equivalence conditions, but should verify eligibility carefully.

Postgraduate eligibility

Graduates can apply to MSc, MTech, MS and interdisciplinary programmes where their BTech and subject credits are accepted. Some Chemistry MSc programmes specify a bachelor's degree with defined Chemistry coursework. Others accept engineering graduates.

PhD eligibility

PhD programmes usually require a relevant master's degree or a strong four-year bachelor's qualification under institutional rules. Selection can include GATE, JAM, CSIR-UGC NET, institute tests and interviews, depending on the discipline.

Documents required

Candidates generally need Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, JEE scorecard, identity proof, photographs, category certificate and counselling documents. Names and dates should match across records.

Eligibility mistakes

Do not confuse Chemical Science and Technology with Chemical Engineering during choice filling. Do not assume that NIT admission uses JEE Advanced or that IIT admission uses only JEE Main. Check the exact institute, programme code and current seat matrix.
