Chemical Science and Technology Entrance Exams

The exact BTech programme uses two main routes: JEE Advanced for IIT Guwahati and JEE Main for NIT Mizoram.

JEE Main

JEE Main Paper 1 tests Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. It is the admission examination for NIT Mizoram and the qualifying route for JEE Advanced.

JEE Advanced

JEE Advanced is required for IIT Guwahati. Candidates must meet JEE Main and other eligibility rules before appearing. The examination tests deep conceptual and problem-solving ability.

JoSAA counselling

JoSAA allocates seats for both IIT Guwahati and NIT Mizoram, but uses JEE Advanced ranks for IIT seats and JEE Main ranks for NIT seats. Candidates fill one ordered choice list under the applicable rules.

CSAB special rounds

CSAB can fill vacant NIT Mizoram seats after JoSAA. It does not offer IIT seats. Separate registration and fee conditions apply.

Entrance preparation

Students should strengthen Class 11 and 12 PCM concepts, solve previous papers and take timed mocks. IIT aspirants should prepare for JEE Advanced depth, while NIT aspirants need a competitive JEE Main rank.

Chemistry preparation

The entrance Chemistry syllabus does not represent the complete degree. Still, a genuine interest in Physical, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry is a useful indicator of course fit.

Cutoff interpretation

Cutoffs vary by year, category, round, gender pool and quota. IIT Guwahati and NIT Mizoram rank ranges are not directly comparable because they use different examinations.

Counselling precautions

Candidates should check the exact programme code and institute. Chemical Science and Technology can appear next to Chemical Engineering and should not be selected accidentally.

Postgraduate examinations

Graduates may later use GATE, IIT JAM, CSIR-UGC NET or institute tests, depending on whether they target engineering, Chemistry or research programmes. Eligibility must be checked individually.
