B.Tech academic eligibility
The official IcfaiTech B.Tech page states that an applicant needed a pass with 60% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA in Class 12, with Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English as subjects. Students appearing for Class 12 or an equivalent examination could apply, but they were required to submit their qualifying certificates at admission.
| Eligibility component | Requirement for regular B.Tech admission |
|---|---|
| Qualifying examination | Class 12 or recognised equivalent |
| Minimum performance | 60% aggregate or equivalent CGPA |
| Required subjects | Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English |
| Result-awaited candidates | Could apply provisionally |
| Final proof | Qualifying certificates had to be submitted at admission |
Students should distinguish “60% aggregate” from scoring 60% separately in every PCM subject unless the university specifically says so in an individual communication. The official wording reviewed for this draft refers to aggregate marks and requires the four named subjects to have been studied. When a board reports grades or CGPA, the applicant should use the board’s official conversion method rather than creating a percentage independently.
Eligibility is different from competitiveness. Meeting 60% did not guarantee selection, a preferred branch or a scholarship. It only satisfied the published academic threshold. Admission still depended on the selection process, availability, document verification and payment.
Students appearing for Class 12
An appearing student did not need to wait for the final board result before submitting the ATIT application. This helped students participate in the admission process without losing time. However, the permission was provisional. The candidate still had to pass the qualifying examination, meet the required aggregate and subjects, and produce the certificate by the university’s deadline.
Such candidates should have entered school and examination details carefully. Estimated or invented marks must not be presented as final marks. When results became available, the candidate needed to upload or submit the genuine mark sheet according to the university’s instructions. If the final result did not meet the eligibility requirement, a test score could not override the missing academic qualification.
B.Tech lateral-entry eligibility
The official B.Tech page also describes advanced-standing or lateral-entry admission. A candidate could be considered for entry into the second year after completing a relevant diploma route with the required performance. The stated routes include a two-year Diploma/Polytechnic after Class 12 or a three-year Diploma/Polytechnic after Class 10 in relevant subjects, with 60% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA.
Lateral-entry candidates may have to clear prerequisite first-year courses alongside second-year study. The “relevant discipline” condition matters: a diploma does not automatically qualify a student for every B.Tech branch. Applicants should obtain written clarification from admissions when the diploma title does not closely match the requested engineering discipline.
| Lateral-entry point | Officially described condition |
|---|---|
| Prior qualification | Relevant two-year diploma after Class 12, or three-year diploma after Class 10 |
| Minimum marks | 60% aggregate or equivalent CGPA |
| Entry level | Second year of the respective B.Tech programme |
| Additional academic duty | Prerequisite first-year courses may need to be cleared with second-year courses |
Eligibility checklist before applying
A candidate should have checked all of the following:
- the exact programme and branch requested;
- the recognised status of the Class 12 board or diploma institution;
- the required Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English subjects;
- aggregate marks or the official CGPA conversion;
- result status and expected certificate availability;
- whether lateral entry was selected correctly;
- name and date of birth matching the school certificate;
- valid email and mobile access throughout admission;
- ability to report to campus and submit originals when instructed.
A discrepancy should be resolved before payment wherever possible. For example, a student with Physics and Mathematics but no Chemistry should not assume general engineering eligibility. The reviewed official B.Tech rule expressly names Chemistry. Similarly, a candidate with 59.8% should not round the score to 60% unless the relevant board or university rule officially permits it.
