Cutoffs and historical comparisons

An admission cutoff or closing rank must be attached to the programme, campus, seat category, round and year. A number without those labels can mislead applicants comparing State Merit with All India Merit or one campus with another. This review does not supply an unverified marks-to-rank conversion or a guaranteed branch cutoff.

The 2026 paper's scoring and count also make careless comparisons with old raw-mark totals problematic. A historical score produced under a different maximum or marking scheme cannot be used directly as a current target. Rank comparisons still need context because seat availability, candidate preferences and programme offerings can change.

Use historical information to build a range of acceptable options, not to remove all uncertainty. A candidate should distinguish a competitive aspiration from a confirmed allotment. Until the actual offer is received and accepted under the rules, keep track of other admission deadlines that the student may need. A prediction is not a substitute for completing a real available opportunity.
