Rank publication and tie-breaking

CUSAT announced UG and PG rank lists on 11 June and directed candidates to their profiles. Applicants should identify the rank relevant to the intended programme and category rather than assuming that any rank displayed in the account applies to all courses. A test score, a general rank and an admission-category position can serve different purposes.

For regular B.Tech ties, the prospectus considers CAT marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in that order. If necessary, it then considers correct-answer counts in those subjects in the same order, followed by date of birth with older candidates preferred, and then alphabetical order of names. These are specific tie rules and should not be replaced by a generic statement that school marks decide every tie.

A rank is an ordering within the applicable process. It does not reveal a guaranteed seat without the candidate's options and the available category seats. If two candidates have similar marks but different ranks, inspect the official score treatment and tie conditions before concluding that the ranking is inconsistent. An unofficial raw-score estimate cannot reproduce all the information used by the university.
