Mathematics is broader than school algebra

The prospectus's Mathematics syllabus includes advanced material appropriate to the lateral-entry context. Its major areas include solid geometry, differential and integral calculus, differential equations, vector calculus, matrices and Fourier series. Preparing only familiar Class 12 chapters leaves substantial gaps. Create a topic inventory from the actual syllabus and mark each topic as understood, partially understood or unfamiliar before selecting study resources.

For each topic, distinguish the definition, the method and the conditions under which the method is valid. Knowing the formula for a matrix inverse is not enough if the determinant is zero. Knowing a Taylor expansion is not enough if the point of expansion is confused with the value being approximated. This three-part approach helps prevent the mechanical use of an expression in a situation where its assumptions fail.

Maintain a small notebook of recurring errors rather than a second copy of the entire textbook. Useful entries include a forgotten integration constant, a sign error in a cross product and confusion between a scalar field and a vector field. For each entry, add one corrected example and a one-sentence explanation. The notebook becomes a focused revision tool because it records the candidate's demonstrated mistakes.
