Examination fee and counselling component

The official 2026 fee table lists a total of ₹972 for SC, SCA and ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu, and ₹1,944 for others. The first total consists of a ₹500 examination fee plus ₹400 counselling charges and 18% GST on those counselling charges. The second consists of ₹1,000 plus ₹800 and the corresponding GST.

These totals should not be shortened to ₹500 or ₹1,000 when describing the combined CEETA PG registration payment. They also should not be described as the entire cost of postgraduate education. Tuition, institutional charges, deposits, accommodation and any other applicable admission payments are separate matters. The student's later offer and institutional fee schedule determine those amounts.

A GATE-category application may have its own registration instructions. Do not pay an amount copied from another route merely because both routes appear under CEAP. First identify the category being used, then read the payment instruction attached to that category. A receipt should identify the application to which the payment belongs so that an unsuccessful transaction can be traced.

Registration and paper selection

The discipline selected in the application matters because the subject-specific portion of the examination must correspond to the registered paper. The compulsory common portions do not make the discipline choice interchangeable on examination day. Read the paper name and code carefully, especially where closely related disciplines have separate labels.

Before final submission, compare the application preview against the academic documents and the intended admission route. The most consequential fields are often the qualification, community claim, selected discipline and identifying details. A correctly uploaded photograph cannot compensate for selecting the wrong subject paper. Save the final submitted copy rather than relying on a browser screen that may later expire.

For a failed payment, distinguish a bank debit from an acknowledged application payment. Retain the transaction reference, time and application number, then follow the official status or support process. Repeatedly starting fresh applications can create several records without resolving the original mismatch. The aim is a single traceable, correctly submitted application for the intended route.
