Cutoffs and closing scores

There is no single CUET cutoff that applies to every university and programme. A published closing score belongs to a particular institution, course, category, admission round and score formula. Removing those labels makes the number difficult to interpret and can lead applicants to compare incompatible records.

When examining a historical closing score, record whether it refers to an initial offer, the last admitted candidate, a later vacancy round or a special category. Changes in the number of papers used, the maximum score or the admission method can also make a previous-year number unsuitable for direct comparison. A larger numerical cutoff does not necessarily indicate greater competition if the scoring denominator changed.

For a candidate below an earlier closing score, later movement is a possibility rather than a promise. Vacancies depend on accepted offers, withdrawals and the rules for filling remaining seats. Keep acceptable alternatives active until an admission decision is secured, but avoid paying for options that the student would never realistically take merely because a prediction suggests a chance.
