Fees for the 2026–27 intake
The official Higher Degree fee schedule lists ₹64,100 as the admission fee and ₹2,91,500 for each of the first two semesters. Hostel charges are ₹36,000 per semester in the listed campus columns. The schedule also distinguishes adjustable advances, deposits and other charges. These are separate from the entrance application fee described earlier.
| Selected fee component | Published amount |
|---|---|
| Admission fee | ₹64,100 |
| First-semester tuition | ₹2,91,500 |
| Second-semester tuition | ₹2,91,500 |
| Hostel per regular semester | ₹36,000 |
| Mess and electricity advance per regular semester | ₹10,000 |
| Other advance per regular semester | ₹12,000 |
| Institute caution deposit | ₹3,000 |
The schedule states a five-percent annual tuition increase for the 2026–27 batch in subsequent academic years, subject to its stated provisions, and notes that hostel charges also increase. A four-semester budget should therefore not simply multiply the first-semester tuition by four and describe the result as a fixed final cost. Additional programme or Practice School charges may also apply under the schedule.
An advance is not necessarily a final charge. Mess and electricity advances are adjusted according to the stated arrangements, while a caution deposit has a different purpose. Keep these labels in a budget so that cash required initially is not confused with eventual net expenditure. The timing of payments matters even when some amounts are later adjusted.
Financial assistance and its conditions
The brochure distinguishes assistance by admission route. For eligible GATE or GPAT entrants, it describes the relevant external scholarship process and an additional tuition waiver of ₹13,400 per month during the semester. For HD-test entrants, it describes a ₹13,400 monthly stipend during the semester. The GPAT scholarship note is specific to the Pilani campus.
Recipients of the stated waiver or stipend are required to contribute eight to ten hours per week to graduate teaching-assistantship work, subject to institute norms. Assistance should therefore not be presented as unconditional cash paid throughout every calendar month. Eligibility, the semester period, duties and the programme's particular arrangements must be understood before it is built into a personal budget.
For a planning exercise, separate gross fees, confirmed assistance and the timing of actual receipts. A waiver may reduce a charge differently from a stipend paid after joining. A family can face an initial cash requirement even when assistance lowers the eventual cost. Obtain the applicable payment and assistance instructions rather than subtracting a headline annual amount without considering when it becomes available.
Special sponsored programmes may have additional decisions about stipends and fee waivers. The brochure explicitly places aspects of the Advanced Electronic Systems and Smart Manufacturing arrangement with the relevant departments, industry partners and admissions committee. Do not extend the ordinary assistance description to that programme without checking its terms.
Verification, reporting and academic registration
Arrange documents so that the qualifying degree, marks or grades, accepted conversion evidence and relevant entrance score can be checked without searching through unrelated files. Add the application, offer and payment acknowledgements. The institution's reporting instructions determine the exact set and format required, particularly for candidates with pending final documents or equivalence questions.
If an original document is unavailable because the awarding institution has not issued it, explain that situation with evidence and obtain an authorised instruction. Do not assume that an informal printout will be accepted in every case. Equally, do not alter a record to make it resemble the expected format. Verification needs a valid document or an accepted provisional arrangement.
After reporting, establish the status of course registration, orientation and any required prerequisite work. Admission administration and academic registration are connected but distinct. A student who has paid and arrived may still need to complete a course-selection step. Identify the academic adviser or departmental contact who can explain that process during the first days.
Applicant situations that need careful interpretation
A candidate has a strong GATE score and selects Software Systems. The programme's HD-test-only route still matters. A national score does not replace the required special-test pathway merely because it is competitive for another programme. The candidate should have selected and completed the appropriate route during the application cycle.
A student sees sixty percent as the only eligibility requirement. The degree mapping remains essential. Formal eligibility is the combination of marks, qualification and programme conditions, not a percentage alone. An applicant should be able to identify the exact clause under which the earlier degree is accepted.
Two applicants compare scores of 180. First establish whether both numbers use the same test combination and scale. A raw HD score, a GATE score and a rank cannot be compared merely because they are numerical. Even two HD scores may relate to different programme merit lists.
An applicant expects assistance for twelve months automatically. The brochure describes semester-period support and duties under institute norms. Budgeting should follow those conditions, not an assumed calendar-year multiplication. The difference affects cash planning and the amount a family may need to provide independently.
A student waits for another round after 19 August. The official 2026 closure notice says that no further iterations will be announced. A later opportunity should not be invented from earlier patterns or informal expectations. The next admission cycle is a separate process with its own announcement.
Questions worth asking before accepting a future offer
Ask how prerequisite gaps are addressed, which core courses begin immediately and whether an additional course load can affect the expected duration. These questions are particularly relevant for interdisciplinary entrants. They help the applicant distinguish formal permission to enter a programme from the work needed to succeed in it.
Ask for the programme's written fee and assistance arrangements, including any sponsored component, teaching duties and payment timing. Keep those answers attached to the exact programme and intake. A general institutional description may not capture a special programme's terms, and an older student's experience may belong to a different fee schedule.
Finally, consider the personal conditions required for two years of sustained study: accommodation, travel, access to equipment and time for academic work. The strongest choice is one the applicant can pursue seriously and affordably. An admission offer is the beginning of that commitment, while the value of the programme depends on the learning and work completed after joining.
