Understanding cutoffs and separate merit routes

A closing score reflects a particular programme, campus, admission route and stage. Comparing it with a score from a different test combination can be meaningless. A GATE score is not on the same scale as an HD raw mark, and the common-plus-special-test total differs from the common-plus-discipline total. Always identify the scale before making a comparison.

Historical cutoffs can describe past allocation, but they cannot guarantee a seat in another year. Applicant preferences, programme availability and the distribution of scores can change. This guide does not invent an official 2026 cutoff table where a verified final record has not been established. A complete-looking table is not useful if its numbers are unsupported.

When an applicant uses both eligible routes, examine the admission status in the institution's own process rather than trying to merge two ranks independently. The committee applies the stated merit-list arrangements. A candidate should not assume that a favourable comparison in one informal online discussion overrides the official allocation or the programme's route restrictions.
