The qualifying degree is not a formality

A minimum aggregate of 60% in the qualifying degree is specified for M.E. and M.Pharm., together with programme-specific input requirements. The percentage condition does not mean that every graduate with 60% can enter every specialisation. Read the degree mapping and any stated equivalence or prior-preparation requirement. A similar course title can conceal a different academic foundation.

For example, the ordinary Computer Science mapping identifies Computer Science or Information Technology backgrounds, while Software Systems has a broader first-degree provision with specific prior preparation. Mechanical and Thermal programmes draw on the stated mechanical background; Mechanical Design also identifies manufacturing-related preparation. These examples show why one generic sentence about possessing an engineering degree is insufficient for the whole catalogue.

Some interdisciplinary options accept several backgrounds. A broad list of qualifying disciplines should still be read literally, including any conditions in its notes. Eligibility for admission is not the same as readiness for every advanced course. A student entering an unfamiliar area may need additional work in Mathematics, computing, laboratory methods or domain fundamentals even when the formal qualification is accepted.

Applicants whose records use grades should obtain the recognised conversion or equivalence evidence required for their qualification. Do not choose a convenient internet formula to turn a grade point average into a percentage. Where the degree title differs from the brochure's wording, provide the actual title and curriculum when seeking clarification. A precise question about equivalence is more useful than an assertion that two programmes are probably the same.
