Corrected school qualification requirement

The admission rules linked from the official 2026–27 DTE bulletin require at least 45% in the prescribed three main subjects for unreserved candidates, or 40% for the specified Chhattisgarh SC, ST, OBC and disability categories. They also require separate passes in those subjects, including theory and practical components according to the board's rules. The aggregate condition is not a requirement to score 45% in each subject.

The same rules refer to the subject combination prescribed for the programme and include a defined vocational alternative. Applicants must therefore verify their exact subject combination for the intended branch. The entrance paper's PCM content should not be used as a substitute for the programme's complete qualifying-subject rules.

For a simple illustration, suppose three relevant subjects each carry 100 marks and a student obtains 42, 51 and 57. The combined percentage is 150 divided by 300, or 50%. Whether the student has passed every required component remains a separate question. An aggregate calculation cannot repair a failed component if the board's passing rules require it to be cleared.

If subject maxima differ, add the obtained marks and the corresponding maximum marks before calculating the combined percentage, unless the applicable admission instruction specifies another method. Averaging three displayed percentages can give a different answer. For example, a subject out of 200 contributes twice as many marks as a subject out of 100 in a combined-marks calculation.

Domicile, category and entry-year distinctions

A claim to a Chhattisgarh category benefit needs the appropriate supporting record. Being resident in the state, belonging to a community and possessing a particular certificate are related but distinct matters. Do not assume that a category selected in another entrance examination automatically establishes the same claim in state counselling.

Students should identify the exact admission category under which they are applying before interpreting a relaxation or seat listing. A condition stated for Chhattisgarh candidates should not be extended automatically to an applicant from another state. Conversely, another-state applicants should read the route available to them rather than assuming that every opportunity is closed solely because they lack state domicile.

First-year and lateral-entry admission must also remain separate. A diploma holder may be looking for direct entry into the second year, while this article's paper discussion concerns the regular PCM examination. The DTE website publishes separate schedules and merit information for B.Tech lateral entry. Use the correct process instead of choosing a form because it contains the word engineering.

An age figure copied from a different year or course should not be treated as a verified 2026 first-year rule. Applicants with an age-related concern should consult the applicable admission instructions and obtain clarification for their actual route. This article avoids imposing an unsupported universal upper-age statement on every engineering applicant.
