Mapping the school syllabus to entrance work

The PCM syllabus draws on senior-secondary concepts, but entrance practice differs from writing a long board-examination answer. Multiple-choice questions require identifying the correct model quickly and distinguishing plausible alternatives. A student should still understand derivations and explanations, because a memorised final formula may fail when the question changes the conditions.

Build a topic list from the official CG PET syllabus rather than importing another examination's deleted-topic list. Two entrance tests can cover similar subjects without having identical scope. Mark each topic with a short evidence-based status: can solve independently, can solve with a reminder, or needs to be learned again.

For a topic marked strong, attempt a mixed set without opening the chapter first. Immediate success after reading notes can overstate retention. For a weak topic, study a small number of worked examples, close the solution and reproduce the method. The transition from following an explanation to choosing the method independently is the real preparation task.

Use school textbooks already available before accumulating more resources. A new book is useful only if it solves a specific problem, such as insufficient numerical practice or unclear conceptual explanations. Collecting several similar question banks can create the appearance of progress while leaving the same basic gaps untouched.
