Pattern, scoring and syllabus proportions

The English-medium computer-based paper lasts three hours. Each correct answer receives one mark, and wrong answers do not attract negative marking. The official syllabus page describes approximately 33% Class 11 coverage from the specified 2024–25 syllabus and 67% Class 12 coverage from the specified 2025–26 syllabus.

Those approximate class-level proportions are not a promise of an exact chapter distribution. Use the official subject PDFs to establish scope. A deleted topic in another examination's syllabus is not automatically deleted here, and an old question bank may contain material that needs to be checked against the current list.

The preparation examples in this guide are original illustrations. They are not reproduced COMEDK questions or predictions of the next paper. Their purpose is to explain methods, assumptions and error checks that can be applied to different questions within the relevant subject areas.

What the time budget means

Three hours for 180 questions gives an average of one minute per item. Some questions can be answered quickly from a clear concept; others require several calculations. An effective plan does not force equal time on every question. It prevents a few slow items from blocking access to the rest of the paper.

Try a three-pass method during practice. In the first pass, solve questions with a clear route. In the second, return to items requiring more work. In the final review, address unanswered questions and check obvious response errors. This is a study strategy, not a mandated navigation sequence.

No negative marking changes the final decision on unanswered questions, but it does not justify rushing through solvable items carelessly. Secure answers based on knowledge first, use elimination when possible and use the remaining time intelligently. A random selection should not displace a calculation that can be completed reliably.

Measure whether your strategy works through timed records. If a candidate spends ninety minutes in Mathematics and leaves many Chemistry questions unseen, the issue may be allocation rather than Chemistry knowledge. A subject score without its time cost provides an incomplete picture of performance.
