Building a syllabus map that reveals weaknesses

Divide each subject into topics small enough to test independently. A label such as electricity complete can conceal weak circuit analysis or capacitor combinations. A better record states what the student can solve, under which conditions and with what level of accuracy.

Identify prerequisite chains. Algebra supports much of Physics and Mathematics; mole calculations support several Chemistry topics. A recurring error in an advanced chapter may arise from an earlier gap. Repairing the prerequisite can improve performance across several chapters more efficiently than repeating the advanced material unchanged.

Separate unfamiliar concepts from familiar concepts used too slowly. The first group needs explanation and guided practice. The second needs retrieval, shorter solution routes and timed application. Treating both groups as a need for more reading often produces little measurable improvement.

After each mixed set, record one specific corrective action. For example, revise signs in work calculations, practise domain checks in logarithms or compare equilibrium and rate statements. A useful error record changes the next study session; a list of wrong question numbers alone does not.
