Raw marks, percentile and rank

The brochure provides for percentile-based normalisation across sessions. A percentile describes the proportion of candidates at or below a score in the relevant calculation; it is not the percentage of the paper answered correctly. A raw score of ninety out of 180 is fifty percent of marks, but it does not by itself reveal a percentile or rank.

Normalisation addresses differences between session papers under the authority's method. A candidate should use the official rank card instead of converting marks through an unofficial universal table. Marks-versus-rank estimates can vary with the candidate population and session performance.

For ties, the brochure gives priority through the stated Physics-and-Mathematics percentile measure, then Mathematics percentile, then Chemistry percentile, followed by age with the older candidate ranked higher. Preserve that order rather than replacing it with a familiar tie-break from another entrance test.

A candidate with zero marks is not assigned a rank under the published rule. For other candidates, the existence of a rank still leaves the educational and counselling conditions to be satisfied. Rank generation and eligibility approval are connected stages, but neither should be described as identical to admission.
