Response and key sequence

Candidate response copies were scheduled for 21 May 2026 at 17:00. Provisional answer keys were scheduled for 25 May at 10:00, with feedback accepted until 26 May at 17:00. Final keys and results were scheduled for 1 June at 10:00.

These are distinct records. The response copy shows what the system recorded; the provisional key shows the authority’s initial answers; the final key reflects decisions after review. A coaching key can support private analysis but has no official status.

How to calculate a provisional score

Download both papers, recorded responses, provisional keys and the question-specific marking instructions. For each question, determine its response type and apply only the scheme printed for that question set. Some questions may award partial marks, some may impose negative marks only under specified selections, and others may have a different numerical rule.

Create a table with question identifier, subject, recorded response, provisional answer, marking rule, provisional marks and challenge note. Sum subject totals and the aggregate separately. Do not use one universal +4/−1 formula.

When feedback is justified

A technically defensible challenge identifies the exact question and answer, states the disputed point, and supports the claim using rigorous reasoning or an authoritative source. “My teacher says so,” “most students selected another option,” or “this reduces my expected rank” does not establish an error.

Check whether the issue is actually a misread response, unit conversion, rounding instruction, multiple-correct condition or language interpretation. When language versions appear inconsistent, follow the official rule about the controlling version and explain the discrepancy precisely.

What the challenge process cannot do

It is not a route to change the answer a candidate selected. It does not reconsider personal illness, time management or a centre incident unrelated to the key. It cannot guarantee that the authority will accept a coaching solution. The review body decides whether to retain, modify or otherwise treat the question under published policy.

Final key and result

The final answer key is used for result preparation and is not merely an annotated copy of every candidate’s feedback. The authority may not publish individual reasoning for each rejected comment. Once the final result is declared, use the official score and rank for counselling rather than a provisional calculator.

Response-sheet archive

Save files locally with descriptive names for Paper 1, Paper 2, provisional keys and final keys. Portal documents may later move or disappear. The archive supports personal analysis and any authorised representation, but candidates should avoid posting documents containing personal identifiers publicly.

Productive post-exam analysis

Before the result, calculate a range rather than a single emotionally loaded number when an answer is disputed. Research programmes and prepare counselling choices across optimistic, realistic and safer rank scenarios. Do not let repeated unofficial rank predictors replace official result waiting or sound choice research.

After the final key, classify lost marks by concept, selection, calculation and instruction. This analysis is valuable for candidates who may prepare again, but eligibility for another attempt must first be checked under the next year’s age, attempt, Class 12 and prior-IIT rules.
