Registration is separate from JEE Main

JEE Main-qualified candidates do not become JEE Advanced applicants automatically. They must open the official candidate portal during the registration window, authenticate with the required JEE Main credentials, review or complete the displayed information, upload applicable documents, choose examination cities under the available rules and pay the registration fee.

The 2026 window for JEE Main-qualified candidates ran from 23 April at 10:00 IST to 2 May at 23:59 IST. Fee payment remained available until 4 May at 23:59. Foreign national and OCI/PIO (F) candidates eligible for direct registration had a separately opened window beginning 6 April. Applicants must use the route corresponding to their legal status and official classification.

Registration workflow

Step Action Quality check
Authentication Sign in through the official portal Use the candidate’s own credentials and confirm the displayed identity
Details Review personal, academic and communication information Match certificates; do not improvise spellings or dates
Examination cities Select permitted preferences Consider travel reliability, not only distance
Documents Upload category, disability, scribe or citizenship material as applicable Use current, legible and correctly issued certificates
Fee Complete the prescribed online payment Wait for portal confirmation and retain transaction proof
Confirmation Download the completed record Check status, application number and submitted selections

Documents and category claims

The exact upload list depends on nationality, category and accommodation needs. A general-category Indian candidate may have fewer uploads than an OBC-NCL, GEN-EWS, SC, ST or PwD candidate. Category certificates must satisfy the format, issuing-authority and date rules stated in the brochure or portal. An old community certificate is not necessarily a valid current OBC-NCL or GEN-EWS certificate.

Candidates seeking compensatory time, a scribe or other disability-related arrangements must follow the specified certification and selection process. Do not wait until the admit card is released to raise a need that the application required earlier. The conditions for candidates with less than 40% disability and difficulty in writing may involve a prescribed medical certificate.

Fee and payment control

Fees vary by candidate category and examination location. Use the amount shown by the official portal for the candidate’s status. A bank debit without an updated successful application status is not sufficient proof of completed registration. Save the payment reference, take a screenshot of the status page if needed, and follow the official reconciliation or helpdesk process when payment remains pending.

Never pay through a link sent by an unknown person or hand over portal credentials to a coaching centre or cybercafé operator. If assistance is necessary, supervise every field and change the password afterward where the portal allows it.

Common application errors

  • Treating an eligible JEE Main result as automatic Advanced registration.
  • Selecting an incorrect nationality or OCI/PIO route.
  • Claiming a category with an invalid or outdated certificate.
  • Assuming an improvement exam changes the Class 12 first-appearance year.
  • Uploading unreadable documents or files in the wrong format.
  • Choosing cities without considering a full-day two-paper schedule.
  • Stopping after form submission without verifying successful fee status.
  • Losing the confirmation page and payment receipt.

After submission

Reopen the portal and confirm that registration and fee status are complete. Read every new notice because the authority may request a document correction or clarification. Add the admit-card opening date to the calendar, but do not expect the admit card to correct wrong eligibility information.

Create an examination folder containing the submitted form, payment proof, certificates, correspondence and later the admit card. The same identity and category details flow into results and counselling; early consistency reduces verification problems after a seat allotment.
