What a cutoff can and cannot tell you

An eligibility threshold concerns whether an applicant meets an entry condition. A rank places an applicant in the examination's ordering. A branch closing rank records the last allotted position for a specified category and round. These are different measurements. Treating one as another can lead a student to believe that meeting the school-marks requirement guarantees a seat or that obtaining a rank guarantees the preferred branch.

A meaningful closing-rank comparison needs the branch, category, seat type, counselling round and year. If any of those labels is missing, the number may describe a different group of applicants from the one being considered. This guide does not provide a fabricated 2026 marks-versus-rank or branch-cutoff table. Use the university's actual allotment and vacancy records for the relevant phase when evaluating an admission position.

Even a correctly labelled previous closing rank is historical evidence, not a promise. The available seats, choices submitted and participation in later rounds can change the result. A student can use prior data to understand competitiveness while still ordering acceptable choices by genuine preference. Putting a less-preferred branch first solely because its historical closing rank seems safer can create an outcome the student did not actually want.
